Sweet Deals

Close up of the prints from the kitchen. I dont know how to move this picture to the appropriate section.
This deal makes me want to squeal. I love metallic shoes, and I love JCrew....so combined is even better! My sister, Sara Jane and I went to Rugged Warehouse (a discount clothing store) and found these little beauties for $13.99. They are so delicate and lovely and I loved them so I bought them. Apparently on JCrew.com, they are currently on sale for $129.99 and were regularly $175. I feel like I won the lottery knowing I got them while they are still in stock and for sale so much more expensive. However I can't figure out how Rugged Warehouse can sell them for such a great price...
This piece I am particularly proud of, is my great-grandmother's old vanity with a facelift. It was a dark stain and had some damaged spots on it, so I first primed it with a KILZ spray paint, let that dry and then followed with two coats of Krylon spray paint in Blue Ocean Breeze. Isn't it beautiful!? I was afraid at first to paint something passed down, but the vintage appeal is upgraded with the color. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Also, the lamp above (possibly out of scale with the vanity) was a TJMaxx find for $40 and the silk curtains a discount fabric made by Mama for me. She is a great seamstress and I love the curtains so much!
This image is kind of dark, but I just wanted to show off my liquid dish soap container. We don't have a dishwasher, so this gets a lot of use and needs to stay on hand on the countertop for the sake of ease. I got each of these little bottles at Goodwill for $0.50 a piece! They are so pretty and each have their own pattern on them. The green color also looks great when they pick up light and cast around the room. Particularly when the other two bottles have water and azaleas in them. Cheap and old-fashioned, but very pretty in my opinion.
This deal was really sweet. I found two prints in Mama and Daddy's attic that they got at an Antique store years ago for $5 a piece. I love their vintage look (and that they are real vintage prints) The frames were 2 for 1 at Michael's for a total of $20. The big piece of furniture to the left (not sure what to call it, armoire? cabinet? entertainment center?) I got at Goodwill and not only that but at Goodwill for half price! It cost only $25 and the fabric curtain at the bottom made from scraps of fabric found in Mama's sewing closet. We needed more storage for our food and such so this was the perfect solution for storing and even displaying someday. Also, the walls were gross and white, so I used left over yellow paint for an accent wall...but I'm considering painting the whole kitchen yellow. Thoughts?
I love anything in colorful enamel. I got this tea kettle from TJMaxx by OXO for $10. It may not be the top quality tea kettle, but it gets the job done, whistles, and has a push lever for pouring. I LOVE it and the color is perfect with the yellow and red in my kitchen.
A few weeks ago, I needed a little retail therapy, so I went to TJMaxx. They have some really good deals on name brand clothes, shoes, and home decor. I got the bowl (center) for $5 and it is perfect for storing clementines, alhtough there are none in there now because I ate them all. The round placemats I got at TJMaxx also for a mere $2 a piece. Good deals really get my blood pumping. Even though this is a rental house and I am in college still, I want it to feel like a home. Clean, warm, and inviting. Hopefully my real home one day will look exponentially better but it is fun to start now building up housewares and staples that I will keep later down the road.
